RX Take Back Day Updates

Time to clean out those cabinets! On Saturday, April 30th from 10am – 2pm at the Canandaigua Wegmans parking lot, the Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition of Ontario County in partnership with the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, Canandaigua City PD and Wegmans, are hosting another DEA Prescription Take Back Day.

Last year, the national weight of medications collected was 839, 543 lbs. with NYS having the 5th highest amount collected in the country at 32,336 lbs. (DEA, 2021), of which 4,060 lbs. came from collection sites hosted by 10 Coalitions and their partners in the Finger Lakes region.

The Ontario County DEA Prescription Take Back Day contributed 968 lbs. to those totals last April!

Safely disposing of medications is one way to keep our community and environment safe.

So, on April 30th, bring your UNUSED and UNWANTED medications (liquids, over the counter, prescription, creams, syringes in a puncture proof container) to the Wegmans parking lot for a drive through drop off of your medications.

If you are unable to make the Saturday event, see the listing of medication drop boxes throughout Ontario County. (attached listing of current drop boxes) or order a free Deterra bag, a pouch that is used to safely dispose of medications at home.

Any questions, reach out to Tracey Dello Stritto at the Partnership for Ontario County. (585) 396-4554 or Tracey@PartnesrhipOC.org.
